Frequently Asked Questions
At Salt & Water Co, we assure that you will receive an individually handpicked and handcrafted piece made with love and aloha. It is our mission to ensure that our customers feel good through the beauty of nature.
Please Note: Each shell, sea glass, driftwood, and gemstone is natural and unique and may therefore vary, to some degree, in color, cut, and size. We do our very best to ensure that every design is carefully made and crafted using high-quality materials and resources.
What is 14k Gold Filled vs. Sterling Silver?
14K Gold Filled is high-quality, jewelry-grade making material that uses real 14k gold tubing, which is strongly bonded onto a base metal, so that the gold does not wear off. It is much higher quality than 14k gold plated or gold vermeil jewelry and does not crack, peel off, or change the color of your skin. Did you know that 14k gold filled lasts just as long, sometimes even longer than sterling silver? Sterling silver is high-quality and cost effective containing 92.5% real silver. Both 14k gold filled and sterling silver are made to last and are extremely durable. All jewelry is water-resistant and does NOT change color from freshwater or saltwater. I have worn all of my pieces while shell diving and for extended periods of time before being rinsed off with freshwater and they have not changed one bit! :)

Yes! We are more than happy to offer free repairs on any merchandise that you have purchased within 15 days of purchase if it has experienced a manufacturing or quality defect. All shipping costs for repairs are the customer’s responsibility. Please send an email to saltandwatercohawaii@gmail.com as soon as possible, so that we can support you!
Salt & Water Co. is not responsible for natural shells, sea glass, or other beach treasures that may experience natural deterioration over time or get damaged from constant overuse and/or mistreatment.
Do custom orders cost more than ready-made designs?
Sometimes, but it can vary depending on several factors. Custom orders and ready-made designs offer similar pricing depending on the complexity and speciality of the design. Because our ready-made designs are only available in small batch orders, you are more than welcome to make a custom order of any of our previous designs for similar pricing (depending on availability).
How to best care for your jewelry?
Most of our designs are dainty and delicate, which means that it is very important to treat your items with love and care. We recommend storing them in a safe place, where it will not get thrown around or accidentally mistreated.
We ALSO recommend washing your items off with freshwater, if you took them for a dip in the ocean. Over time, like any sterling silver or 14k gold filled jewelry, you may experience tarnishing or discoloration due the natural oils on your skin and/or other elements that come into contact with the item. If this happens, we suggest deep cleaning your jewelry. An easy at-home option is to soap your jewelry in a bowl with water and dish soap for a couple minutes. You can then use a toothbrush to gentle scrub extra areas of buildup. A stronger option would be to buy tarnish remover from your local store to make your piece shine again. Follow the instructions and get ready for a brand new piece of jewelry! (If you’d like us to do it for you, then additional costs may apply).
At Salt & Water Co., we use high-quality materials that I, myself have worn everyday for years, never taking it off in the shower, ocean, or while sweating — and it still looks amazing! While we do not recommend this constant overuse, it does prove how durable and high-quality our materials can be! :)
